Banking in the Classroom
The Banking Revolution rolls into the classroom as Patriot National Bank employees visited a local school with a 60-minute presentation that teaches elementary-age children the fundamentals of banking and developing good financial habits. The lesson plan was developed by Bedford branch manager Ken Lynch and Marketing as an adjunct to the Patriot-sponsored Bridgeport Bluefish Reading program.
On May 29th and June 12th, Trumbull branch manager Rich Mishley visited the Columbus School in Bridgeport to challenge fourth and six graders on their banking knowledge, teach them how to fill out a deposit slip and check, as well as keep an accurate ledger. Children shared their dream jobs (ranging from athlete to record producer) and engaged in lively discussions about wants vs. needs when determining how much of their “paycheck” they would spend, save and reserve for bills.
Based on the enthusiastic reaction of both the children and their teachers, we plan to visit more local schools in each of our branch areas in the fall. Branch managers who are interested in participating should contact Lisa Grant in Marketing.
