Hail to the troops! Patriot
National Bank and Local Elementary School Children Pay Tribute to the
Disabled American Veterans, CT Division
Dear Veterans,
Thank you for helping keep this great country safe. You have taken
time out of your lives and put all of your effort into serving America.
You have left behind important things and put your lives at risk.
You did this all for our future. You are the true heroes of America.
Kyra Solomon (5th Grader at Springdale School)
STAMFORD, CT (June 3, 2009). In recognition of Memorial Day 2009,
Patriot National Bank partnered with local schoolchildren to honor members
of the Disabled American Veterans Dept of CT. (DAV). The children,
kindergartners through fifth grade wrote and presented cards and
letters expressing their thanks and appreciation to the Vets in
receptions held in Patriot branches.
On Wednesday May 20th, third to fifth graders from the
Springdale and Hart Magnet Schools gathered at Patriot's Stamford branch at
838 High Ridge Road to salute local Stamford Vets, Buffert Brooks, Tim Huff
and Peter Nixon along with Huntington, CT. resident Al Meadows.
The following week on Wednesday May 27th, students from the
Frenchtown and Daniels Farm Elementary Schools paid tribute to Vets
Steve Frank (Naugatuck), Richard Pescatore (Torrington), Al Church (Bristol)
Al Meadows and Trumbull's own First Selectman, Ray Baldwin at Patriot's
Trumbull branch at 945 White Plains Road.
Mr. Meadows, a Veteran of the Vietnam War and Past DAV State Commander,
brought along mementoes of his time served, including a helmet, food rations,
photos and his Purple Heart medal. He noted Patriot's on-going relationship
with the DAV and how grateful this not-for-profit organization is
for Patriot's support. "Meeting and listening to the children read
the card that they have individually prepared is a very emotional
experience for all the vets because of the heartfelt messages
inside. Patriot National Bank truly lives up to the motto of the
Disabled American Veterans, Building Better Lives for America's Veterans."
Cole Fischman, a Fourth Grader at Frenchtown School liked "when the men were
sharing stories of the war and how they saved people's lives. There was a
picture of a man holding his ears while testing equipment. One week later,
he died. I was motivated to make the card because I knew some people in
the war were disabled and I wanted to thank them for helping the country."
About the DAV and Patriot National Bank
The DAV provides programs and assistance free of charge, enabling
disabled veterans and their families to restart and reshape their
lives as civilians. Patriot has established a relationship with
the Veterans, coordinating efforts to help them raise needed funds
to provide transportation to and from their Rocky Hill hospital
facility. Recently, Patriot proudly presented representatives of
this organization a check for $10,000 as a result of both employee
and customer donations. Contact the DAV at
